Textul posibil din 1 Ioan 5:20

The possible text  of 1 John 5:20

Among some researchers and translators of the Bible there has long been a suspicion regarding the text of 1 John 5:20, due to the ambiguity of its wording. This biblical book also contains the famous Johannine Comma which is proven to be a processed text.

Printre unii cercetători și traducători ai Bibliei a existat de multă vreme o suspiciune cu privire la textul din 1 Ioan 5:20, din cauza ambiguității formulării acestuia.

The Johannine Comma (Latin: Comma Johanneum) is an interpolated phrase (comma) in verses 5:7–8 of the First Epistle of John. The Johannine Comma (1 John 5:7) was added into Erasmus' third edition of the Textus Receptus, due to intense pressure from the Catholic Church and other supporters and defenders of the Trinity doctrine because an explicit mention of the Trinity is nowhere in the Bible...

The oldest Vulgate manuscript - the Codex Fuldensis made between 541 and 546 does not have the verse.

KJV

1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

English Standard Version

1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Regarding 1 John 5:20, the surprise also comes from the Vulgate Bible, which formulates the phrase differently.

Latin Biblia Vulgata

1 John 5:20 et scimus quoniam Filius Dei venit et dedit nobis sensum ut cognoscamus verum Deum et simus in vero Filio eius hic est verus Deus et vita aeterna.

English translation of the verse:

And we know that the Son of God is come. And he hath given us understanding that we may know the true God and may be in his true Son. This is the true God and life eternal.

In other part of the word

Faithful New Testament *2007 (by the baptist Viorel Ratiu, Romania)

1 John 5:7 NTTF Dar știm că Fiul lui Dumnezeu a venit și ne-a dat minte ca să cunoască pe Cel Adevărat; şi suntem în Cel Adevărat prin Fiul Său Iesus Christos. Acesta este Dumnezeu Adevărat și viața cea eternă.

English translation of the verse:

1John 5:20 But we know that the Son of God came and gave us a mind to know the True One; and we are in the True One through His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God and eternal life.

Conclusion

The Comma Johanneum is a textual variant in regards to 1 John 5:7-8. The word comma simply means “short clause,” and Johanneum means “pertaining to John.”

Without the “comma,” 1 John 5:7-8 reads, “For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.”

With the “comma,” 1 John 5:7-8 reads, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.”

- 1 John 5:7 - this verse does not appear in any Greek manuscript of the NT. Even Cornilescu puts him in a bracket, considering him unreliable. It appears in TR because this was the will of the pope (not of God). ” Viorel Ratiu, Arad, Romania, 2015

Regarding 1John 5:20 the one true God, the Father is the true God and eternal life. (See John 17:3)
